The McWhorter School of Building Science at Auburn University seeks applications for a non-tenure track Lecturer or Senior Lecturer position. This is a full time position with a two-year term and may be renewed by mutual agreement, contingent upon availability of funds, the need for services, and satisfactory performance. The successful candidate will teach in the undergraduate construction curriculum and participate in service activities that support students in the School.

The individual in this position will be expected to be on campus during the academic year to: 1) teach students in accordance with the University mission, 2) collaborate with faculty and students in BSCI and other disciplines, and 3) interact with construction industry organizations and individuals. Salary will be based on a nine-month academic year appointment. Summer teaching opportunities are available. There are also opportunities to connect with industry associations, coach competition teams, attend conferences, and participate in study abroad.

Review of applications will begin May 1, 2024 and will continue until a suitable candidate is selected and recommended for appointment. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2024 or January 1, 2025, depending on the applicant’s availability.

Minimum Qualifications
 
Required qualifications include:
  • Master’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field at time of hire, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the US construction industry, at the time employment begins.
OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field at time of hire, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the US construction industry, at the time employment begins.

Applicants should have a demonstrated background in and be prepared to teach in some of the following areas: Construction Materials and Methods, Safety, Quality Control, Plan Reading, Construction Technology, Mechanical & Electrical Systems, Estimating, Project Management, Field Supervision, and Structural Systems.
 
Desired Qualifications
Desired qualifications include: evidence of progressively responsible industry experience over the applicant’s career, evidence of effective communication, significant U.S. construction experience, professional registration or contractor’s license; certification and/or credentials, capability of incorporating information technology into the classroom and experience teaching at the university level.
